How To Enable Incognito Mode in Google Chrome [2026 Guide]

I’m going to teach you how to enable incognito mode in Google Chrome. Incognito mode lets you browse without saving your browsing history, cookies, site data, or information entered in forms on your device once you close the session. It can be particularly useful when you want to keep your search activities private or if you are using a shared or public computer.

If you want stronger transport security while you browse, you can also enable HTTPS-Only Mode in Chrome for encrypted connections whenever possible.

Once you get into the habit of using this shortcut, enabling incognito mode will become second nature.

Privacy limits

Chrome will not save your browsing history or cookies in this session. Your activity might still be visible to websites you visit, advertisers, and your internet service provider. For details on what traces can remain outside the browser and how to remove them, see how to delete Incognito history in Chrome.

When to use it

You might be doing research for a surprise gift, logging into another person's account, or just want a bit of privacy. Incognito mode is at your service for these short, isolated sessions. If you manage shared devices and want to control guest browsing, you can also disable Guest Mode.

Exit incognito

To exit incognito mode, close the window like you would any other. If you want to switch back to your regular browsing experience, navigate between your regular Chrome windows and the incognito window as needed.

Final Thoughts

Enabling incognito mode is quick and gives you a private session that does not store local history, cookies, or form entries after closing. It adds privacy on your device, but it does not make you invisible online. Use the menu path or the shortcuts to open it instantly when you need it.
